Hi! My name is Jaxon Potter, I am 19 years old, and I am currently pitching for the Detroit Tigers organization! I'm originally from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, but grew up in Bardstown about two and a half hours northeast with my older sister Claudia, our mother Louisa, and our father Clayton. This page is intended to help my family, friends, fans, and yes, even myself, in tracking my career progress and may include general life updates, as well.
I played four seasons at Bardstown (KY) High School, splitting my freshman year between the freshman and JV teams, playing on both JV and varsity my sophomore year, and playing varsity for my junior and senior seasons. I also earned varsity letters in golf (one, as a sophomore), soccer (two, as a junior and senior), and cross country (all four years), for a total of 10 varsity letters earned. As a soccer player, I played in 27 varsity matches, scoring one goal with three assists as a reserve midfielder and full-back. As a baseball player, I have experience at every position on the diamond, but excelled as a pitcher and outfielder, batting .457 with 28 home runs and 9 stolen bases in my varsity career, while posting a 25-5 record, 10 saves, a 0.83 ERA, and 390 strikeouts on the mound. I also took pride in becoming the second player in school history to play 75 or more varsity games without committing an error (I finished with 82 games played at the varsity level).
I had multiple scholarship offers from pretty much every level coming out of high school, but ultimately, I was selected in the first round by the Tigers, and signed with them rather than going to college right away. I then made my Major League debut in 2008, the year after I was drafted, and made the Opening Day roster for the first time in 2009.
